How do I know the Parkinson's Booster Program is a good fit for me?

The exercises used in the Booster Program will often have you standing, walking, switching directions, lunging, and squatting along with other dynamic movements.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you have had more than 3 falls in the last 6 months, you would benefit from seeing a skilled physical therapist before starting this program in order to address your individual balance deficits.

As a general rule, if you’re going to be doing this program by yourself, you should be able to do the following:

  • Safely stand on your own two feet without an assistive device (e.g., walker, cane, etc.)
  • Safely stand up and sit down from a chair without an assistive device (e.g., walker, cane, etc.)

I was very pleased with my progress during the program, I saw my balance, my leg strength, and my flexibility improve fairly quickly. During the 1st week of the program I was able to flip my jacket on the way I used to and by the end of the 3rd week I was back on my Wii Fit doing balance games and saw my balance had improved! After working as a physical therapist for 4+ years, becoming a certified Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) professional, and opening a private practice dedicated to Parkinson’s, I’ve helped hundreds of clients take back control of their lives by showing them the exponential power of exercise.

Within weeks of starting a researched-backed, Parkinson’s-specific exercise program, my clients can make extraordinary gains. They stand taller, walk more fluidly, feel more energized, and return to the things they love but had abandoned like hiking, biking, bowling, traveling, and more.

I travel quite a bit, so I need a program that I can do on-the-go. I put all the Booster program print-outs, instructions, worksheets, and plans into a 3-ring binder so when I travel that binder goes into my suitcase. You can easily do all the exercises in a hotel room or in the hotel gym. Frequently Asked Questions


Is the Booster Program for ANY Fitness Level?
The booster program has been designed to meet the needs of the average exerciser, but we’ve also built in ways to increase the intensity which allow it to be as challenging as it needs to be for any level. In our experience, Boosters who join the program who are already very active still report significant improvements in their flexibility, balance, and energy levels. For those just beginning a fitness program, there should be no problem since it’s been designed with that group in mind.
Will I need Assistance to Perform the Booster Program?
While we would never discourage the supervision of a supportive spouse, friend, or family member, it is not be a requirement for your involvement.
Where do I perform these Exercises?
The optimal space required is 10ft x 10ft (a small room), but there are also some walking drills that are best done outside on the sidewalk, walking path, or a track. Here are a few of the places current Boosters are performing their exercises: living room, kitchen, bedroom, hotel room, front or back porch, local park.
How long do I have access to the course?
After enrolling, you have unlimited lifetime access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own. This means that you can pay for the program once and then repeat it (using the User’s Manual, exercise videos, worksheets, and private support community) as many times as you’d like at no additional cost.
Do I have to give up my Current Fitness Program to join Boosters?
No, Please Don’t! We encourage all Booster participants to do the exercises in the Program that are prescribed each day (typically 20-45 minutes) and then supplement them with any other activities you’re already doing and enjoy. Boosters who have gone through the program before often supplemented their routine with other activities such as: boxing, tai chi, cycling, kayaking, hiking, dancing, and even ping-pong tournaments. The sky’s the limit! Just be careful not to get too overzealous right away – listen to your body and progress as your energy allows.
How Long is the Booster Program?
The Booster Program stretches 5-weeks and begins the Monday following your sign-up. However, you’ll get immediate access to the Booster program outline so you can begin preparing for the upcoming weeks. You also have LIFETIME ACCESS to the entire program as soon as you sign up. This means that you can pay for the program once and then repeat it (using the User’s Manual, exercise videos, worksheets, and private support community) as many times as you’d like at no additional cost.
Does the Booster Program replace a therapist or doing therapy?
No. There is no replacing the physical therapy your PCP, neurologist, or other healthcare professional have prescribed for you. The Booster Program has been designed as a fitness program for the Parkinson’s population, but does not address individual physical impairments. If you need help finding a Parkinson’s physical therapist in your area, email us and we’ll be glad to recommend someone for you. (For more questions about traveling, see “Can I do this while traveling?” below.)
What equipment does it require?
This Booster Program does not require equipment, only your body-weight and a sturdy chair or countertop. However, many of the exercise videos include one of my favorite exercise tools: A pair of Parkinson’s Poles, which are the perfect tool for building balance, stamina, arm swing, coordination, and strength. We’ll show you how to make your own for less than $15, so don’t worry about expensive additional costs.
How Tech-Savvy do I Have to Be?
One of our most lovely Boosters, Cheryl, said it best: “I’m a refugee for technology. I’m learning it as a second language. I have people around me that could help me, but this program does not feel overwhelming at all. Everything is click-and-it’s-there.” Here are the online actions you’ll need to perform: send and receive email (including occasionally searching your spam/junk folders), watch YouTube videos, and download files to your computer. Optional but highly recommended: Join a Facebook group. (Since we feel this is a very important part of the program, we’ve made it very, very easy to do during our preparation week together) Don’t have a Facebook account? You can go to www.Facebook.com to sign-up in less than 2 minutes. You’re able to make all your settings private so no one is able to find your information unless you invite them to do so.
Can I Still do this Program while Traveling?
Absolutely! The Booster Program is designed to be as mobile as you are. Since the weekly exercise videos require internet access, the only requirement is a strong Wi-Fi connection. The videos will stream on your phone’s mobile data, however this is not strongly recommended as video playback can be delayed and spotty. Not to mention it will likely use up a lot of your phone plan’s data!
